My 2018 make-up routine & favourite products

Thursday, 12 April 2018

I thought it was about time I updated my make-up routine seeing as it looks so different a year on. I use a lot more make-up than I used to; I have discovered the wonders of setting sprays, BB creams, and brow powders, and my make-up brush collection has grown a little. Nothing here is too expensive, but I did get a make-over in MAC when I last went to York which explains the abundance of MAC products I have. Everything else is very affordable and available to purchase fairly easily on the web.

Hope you enjoy the post!

🙂 After I wash my face, I prime using the Astral face and body cream. This is a rich moisturiser and gives the skin an intensely hydrated and dewy base ready for make-up. You have to let it sink in for a good 5-10 minutes though, so I suggest doing this first thing when you wake up. This isn't a traditional primer but it's worked better than anything else I've ever tried.

🙌 I only wear the MAC Studio Fix Fluid foundation on bad skin days as it's a medium to full coverage formula and I don't need that every day. My GOSH BB cream is my go-to lately; it offers a sheer, light, even coverage that highlights the skin and gives you that 'your skin but better' appearance. For concealer I still use my trusty Stay Time by SEVENTEEN. It's my perfect shade and it has a gorgeous creamy consistency. I've been using this for years. I also use Maybelline's Fit Me! concealer which has a more yellow tone to it. For most of my base make-up I use the Ultimate Blending Brush (CF) (V) from e.l.f.

😚 To set my face I use MAC Skinfinish in Light. I use a stippling brush to apply this; it distributes the product a little more gently. I don't like to pack powder on because I have normal to dry skin and I don't want to look cakey, so using a stippling motion gives me a more softer, lighter finish. After I apply the KIKO blush to the apples of my cheeks brushing upwards to my temples, then the MAC Double-Gleam highlighter on my non-existent cheekbones. To set all these powdery products I spritz either Mario Badescu's Aloe and Rosewater Spray, or MAC Fix+. Either one is good.

👀 For my eyebrows I alternate between the MAC brow set (when I don't want super shaped brows but I want some colour to make them look less patchy), and the taupe-coloured Louder Powder by BLEACH London if I want a more defined shape. Louder Powder is actually eyeshadow but it makes a perfect brow colour for me because it is a lovely cool-toned brown. I apply brow powder using the Morphe M158 brush. When brows are done, I put on a layer of Max Factor mascara - I have it in Black/Brown because I don't always want intense jet-black lashes. One coat usually gives me natural looking lashes with added length and flutteriness.

👄 For lips I'm currently loving the 3D Hydra Lipgloss from KIKO in Pearly Mauve; A shimmery nude-pink perfect for every day and it's not sticky whatsoever. I've also been using MAC's Satin Lippy in the shade Mocha which has a pretty peach undertone, ideal for spring and summer.

Et voilà!
