My favourite songs to sing along to when I feel blue

Sunday, 7 August 2016

When I'm in a 'meh' mood (the kind of mood that hits you on a Sunday evening when you know you've got work in the morning, you know 🙄), I blast some of my favourite songs out loud and sing along because singing like an idiot always makes me feel better. Something about passionately singing (or miming) a power ballad is just beautiful and joyous in every way, it never fails to put me in a good mood. Give it a go if you haven't already. 🎵

Here are 6 of my favourite sing-along songs (in no particular order):

1. Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel

I was first introduced to this song in college when we were looking at analysing different kinds of music videos and my tutor brought this one up as an example - the video to Sledgehammer is absolutely bonkers but it is very memorable. I've been obsessed with this song ever since then.

2. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

Who doesn't know Bohemian Rhapsody off by heart? I'd be shocked to hear of one person who hasn't belted this out at least once in their life.

3. Girls - The 1975 (explicit)

One of my fave songs, it's got a smashing video and the song itself as catchy as hell.

4. The Downeaster "Alexa" - Billy Joel

You can thank The Hangover II for introducing me to this belter of a song. This would be my go-to karaoke song if the idea of karaoke didn't mortify me. This would also probably be the song I'd do on Lip Sync Battle if they did one for non famous folk.

5. Kickapoo - Tenacious D (explicit)

A classic in my eyes, The Pick of Destiny was one of my fave movies as a teen. My best friend and I would watch it relentlessly, resulting in us knowing all the songs word for word.

6. Escape - Rupert Holmes

Again, if you don't know this song off by heart already, then what have you been doing with your life? Seriously though, what? More important things that memorising the words to Escape, clearly.
