Castle spotting & views of the Peaks

View of Sheffield from Harthill, South Yorkshire

The ride to Chesterfield is always a pretty one. You get to Mastin Moor and there's a huge hill where you can see sweeping views of the Peak District and Sheffield. It's glorious especially when the sun is shining as it was today. We even saw Bolsover Castle which you can spot from the top of the hill if the sky is clear enough. I would have taken photos but you would have hardly been able to see the castle because it's so far away. I could barely see it even with my glasses on.

On the way back we took the route via Harthill where I took the photo above - you can see the Peaks very faintly at the back and what I think is the edge of Sheffield just in front of them. I've took photos from this exact spot before and you can see them here and here on my Flickr. I took them in the summer and the colours are wild.

I also picked up the latest issue of The Simple Things today because it looks like a really chilled out magazine. The interior and travel articles are my favourites and the photography is so wonderful and inspiring.
